In previous years, he had already floated the idea of retirement or jumping ship. However, with retirement off the table for another year, the quarterback has intentions of following in Brett Favre's footsteps. Many have speculated that the quarterback's motivation to continue playing isn't money.

Rather, speculation has run rampant that Rodgers is attempting to show up his former mentor Brett Favre. Favre's first stop after leaving the Green Bay Packers was also the New York Jets. Some are looking at the situation and placing the NFL Draft as the next likely deadline for the deal, so the Packers can immediately turn around and get an instant return on losing their quarterback.
