"That's f**king insane" - Eagles legend Jason Kelce in awe as Patrick Mahomes' Chiefs chase Tom Brady's record

There may be a few controversies to dust off but Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are bracing themselves for the challenge of suiting up in a seventh straight AFC Championship Game. The 23-14 win over the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round means that the Chiefs are now just one season shy of the all-time record for most consecutive Championship Game appearances in league history.

That record, of course, is held by none other than Tom Brady and his all-conquering New England Patriots, who made the AFC title game eight years in a row between 2011 and 2018. Ironically, Brady's run ended just as Mahomes' run was starting, signalling a passing of the torch moment that has become increasingly rarer in the National Football League. During that run, the Patriots went 5-3 in the AFC title game and 3-2 in the Super Bowl. The Chiefs are 4-2 in title games so far and 3-1 in the Super Bowl.

On this week's episode of the New Heights Show, Jason and Travis Kelce discussed what it was like for the Chiefs to come out on top last weekend and make their seventh straight AFC Championship Game.

“Chiefs advance to the seventh straight AFC Title Game. That’s f**king crazy. I mean that is f**king insane. God, you guys are good,” Kelce said in a snippet of the show.

Travis Kelce sets high bar for failure for Kansas City Chiefs

During the same episode, Jason Kelce marvelled at the Chiefs' discipline in reaching the feat of seven consecutive title game appearances. The Eagles icon then posed the question of whether this was just an accepted outcome for Kansas City when the season is underway.

“I put that on myself every single year. It’s either that or I’m a failure," Travis Kelce said in response.
"I don’t care if I’m the MVP of the league, which I’ll never be, which I’ve never been up for. It doesn’t matter what you do individually. It matters what your team does at the end of the day.”

It's safe to say neither Kelce nor Mahomes will end up winning the MVP race this year. That crown will rest on the head of one of Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen, come February.
