The Dallas Cowboys had another lackluster season in 2022 as they were one of the best teams on paper heading into the campaign.

Quarterback Dak Prescott fractured his thumb in the season opener and missed a good chunk of the season early on. Despite being without Prescott early on in the season, the Cowboys still finished the season 12-5. This was good enough for second place in the NFC East and a Wild Card spot in the playoffs.

They defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round of the playoffs, but fell short to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional round.

Heading into the 2023-2024 season, they will be without veteran running back and offensive coordinator, Kellen Moore.

Former Dallas DL Chris Canty doesn't have much faith in Prescott and McCarthy heading into this season. He questioned whether Prescott could thrive without Elliott and Moore as part of his offense.

"We haven’t seen Dak Prescott have success without Ezekiel Elliott in his prime and/or Kellen Moore being the offensive coordinator. I have a hard time having a lot of faith in a guy that’s had 32 turnovers across 28 games over the last two years. That’s a problem.
"The other problem that you’re gonna be dealing with is Mike McCarthy taking more control of this offense for a head coach who’s had the most penalized team across all of football in the last two years.”

Prescott led the league in interceptions (15) despite missing five games.

Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and the team mutually agreed to part ways with Moore joining the Los Angeles Chargers.

Mike McCarthy became the Dallas Cowboys head coach during the 2020 season.

They missed the postseason in his first year as they went 6-10. In the past two seasons, he's led them to a 12-5 record.

In 2021, they were one-and-done as they were upset by the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card round. A year later, they defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round, but lost to the 49ers again, this time in the Divisonal round.

McCarthy has a career playoff record of 11-10 being 1-2 with the franchise.
