"They’re the new evil empire" - Chris Broussard doesn't mince words on Patrick Mahomes and Chiefs ahead of AFCCG

The Baltimore Ravens' season ended with a loss to the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round of the playoffs. The team's star cornerback Marlon Humphrey pleaded with the Bills and the two teams competing in the NFC Championship game, the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders, to find a way to beat the Kansas City Chiefs.

His appeal seemed puzzling, considering Baltimore isn't a direct rival of Kansas City nor does he have any longstanding beef with the franchise. However, analyst Chris Broussard believes Humphrey's post echoed the sentiment of most neutral fans. On Fox Sports' "First Things First" on Wednesday, he said:

"They're not gaining villain status. They are clearly, absolutely positively the villains now. They're the new evil empire. There's no doubt about it. And I got no problem with what Marlon Humphrey said."

Broussard added that the Chiefs' unparalleled dominance has earned them infamy and fans whose franchises are no longer in the playoffs would prefer anyone but Kansas City win the Super Bowl:

"Not Brady's Patriots, not Montana's Niners, not the steel curtain Steelers of the '70s, not the great Cowboys of the '90s, no other team, in my view, is doing what the Chiefs are doing right now, and that is looking like they belong in another league.
"They look like they're treating like all these other tremendous football players... look like minor league teams compared to the Chiefs."

Chiefs' controversial win over Texans adds to neutral fans' fury

For neutrals on the fence about whom to root for in the playoffs, the divisional round duel between the Chiefs and Houston Texans ensured that Kansas City won't be getting much support.

The reigning Super Bowl champions won the game 24-13 but the win was marred in controversy as several contentious decisions went in the Chiefs' favor. In the first of two controversial moments, the referees threw a flag for Will Anderson's run-of-the-mill tackle on Patrick Mahomes and kept Kansas City's drive alive with a 15-yard penalty.

Later in the game, the referees charged Henry To'oTo'o with unnecessary roughness after he hit his teammate Folorunso Fatukasi headfirst while trying to tackle Mahomes.

To irk neutral fans further, in the fourth quarter, the superstar QB tried to draw another unnecessary roughness call by intentionally slowing down instead of going out of bounds to force the Texans defender to shove him before dramatically diving and banking on the referees to throw a flag.

While Kansas City is on the brink of history, no fan that doesn't already support the team is seemingly keen on watching them win the Super Bowl for the third year running due to some of the refereeing decisions that often seem to go in their favor.
