The Cleveland Browns traded the farm for Deshaun Watson while he was mired in sexual misconduct allegations. Immediately after that blockbuster trade, they handed him a five-year, $230 million deal, which is shaping up to be the worst deal in sports history.
Watson has shown little to warrant the big bucks since being traded to Cleveland and had to call time on his 2024 season early after undergoing season-ending surgery on a ruptured right Achilles in October.
The Browns have been saddled with that albatross of a contract since then, but Watson and the franchise reportedly agreed a deal to restructure his contract, as they still owe him $92 million fully guaranteed over the next two years.
The restructure is aimed at easing the Browns' salary cap burden in the future but also sent a clear signal that they intend to have Watson on the roster after he completes his rehab. The Browns' decision, though, didn't go down well with the fanbase, who made their feelings clear on X:

"F this team they are unbelievable. I got to figure more than 70% of the fan base is done at this point," one fan wrote.
"Wtf is this nonsense. Move on. Worst trade in all of sports ever," another added.
"2 more years?! Gotta hand it to the Browns. I didn’t think it was possible for this deal to get worse. They did it!," a third wrote.
Deshaun Watson's teammate Myles Garrett makes feelings clear on QB
Myles Garrett ignited speculation of angling for a move away from the Browns this week as he told the media that he just wants to win. The star pass rusher was asked for his thoughts on the QB situation and what the future holds for Deshaun Watson:
“Once he’s ready and willing to come back, I’m going to support whoever’s behind center," Garrett said.
"That’s no dig at Deshaun. I’m hoping he’s ready when the time comes but that’s a tough injury to come back from. We don’t know his timetable. Always hoping for the best with him."
Garrett added that Deshaun Watson has been a model teammate on and off the field, reiterating that he definitely doesn't have "any smoke" with Watson.
