The Dallas Cowboys are entering an important era, following a separation from Mike McCarthy after the end of the 2024 season. The two sides couldn't come to an agreement about the direction of the franchise, and with an expiring contract, McCarthy left the job after five years.

It didn't take long for an important report about the Cowboys' head coach search to emerge. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the franchise has had initial discussions with Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders to make the jump from college football to the NFL. Nothing is imminent at this point.

NFL fans, who have long thought about the idea of Sanders becoming the head coach for the Cowboys, a franchise for which he has played in the league, were unsurprised. The prospect of "Coach Prime" moving to Dallas is extremely exciting, but fans are not sure if his methods are going to work with the pros:

"Hiring him would be a move of epic stupidity", one fan said.
"Deion would be a bottom 5 NFL coach in 2025. Probably #32. But hard to know what Bears, Raiders, Jets and Jaguars will do", said another.
"This is terrible news for the Cowboys", a third resumed.

Deion Sanders' successful NFL career with Dallas Cowboys

The Colorado head coach started his career with the Atlanta Falcons, before spending a year (and winning the Super Bowl) with the San Francisco 49ers in 1995. Later, he joined Jerry Jones' team as a free agent, signing a five-year contract with the franchise at a time when they were the best team in the NFC.

He won a second straight Super Bowl in 1995 during his first year with the team. The other four years, he was voted to the Pro Bowl, but the team never repeated the same success. The last time that Dallas even made it to the NFC Championship Game was in 1995 when he was still playing.

Jones is an owner known for being patient with his coaches, and considering Sanders's history, he could easily build the team to his own liking. Depending on how things go, even his sons could be part of the roster.
