Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders' dream run in the 2024 NFL season ended anticlimactically, as the Philadelphia Eagles thrashed them 55-23 at Lincoln Financial Field in the NFC championship game on Saturday.
The game was close until late in the second quarter. However, a fourth-and-5 conversion from the Eagles from midfield turned the tide of the contest in their favor. From that point, Philadelphia outscored Washington 41-11 and booked its berth in the Super Bowl.
Daniels had an impressive outing against an incredible defense. He completed 29 of his 48 pass attempts for 255 yards and one touchdown with one interception and rushed for 48 yards and another touchdown on six carries. However, it wasn't enough to guide the Commanders to their third road win in as many games.

In the postgame news conference, the rookie quarterback did not mince words about how he was feeling about the loss:
“This sucks. This s**t sucks. Excuse my language, but I couldn’t be prouder of the guys in the locker room. Year 1, everyone not really knowing each other. Rookies. The vets did a tremendous job of bringing us in and helping us out. And we all just meshed. And we all got to this point, but at the end of the day, we lost, and it sucks but we'll move on."
Jayden Daniels stats: QB's historic rookie season
Before the season commenced, few expected the Commanders to finish the year above .500 let alone make the playoffs and venture as deep as they did. However, they managed to knock on the door of a Super Bowl appearance largely due to Jayden Daniels' stellar play.
The quarterback finished the regular season with 3,568 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Among players with at least 3,500 passing yards, his passer rating of 100.1 was eighth-best in the league.
Daniels has already established himself as one of the league's best dual-threat quarterbacks. He rushed for 891 yards, which ranked second among signal-callers behind Lamar Jackson's 915, and six touchdowns. The Commanders star is the runaway favorite to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
As disappointing as Washington will be about how their season ended in Philadelphia, they'll be excited about the future, knowing they have an MVP-caliber talent under center.
