Miss Universe 2017 and former Denver Broncos star Tim Tebow's wife Demi-Leigh once escaped a terrifying carjacking attempt. During the promotion of her new book 'A Crown That Lasts' on FOX News, Demi-Leigh recalled how she was accosted by armed men in 2017.
Three months after winning the Miss South Africa pageant, Demi-Leigh was on her way to an event. However, little did she know that a group of five armed men would surround her car at the red light and attempt a carjacking. Talking about the same, she narrated:
"Shortly after I won Miss South Africa [March 26, 2017], about three months later, I was on my way to an event as the official Miss South Africa … And I was stopped at a red traffic light. And before I could even blink, I was surrounded by five men, by multiple men, and some of them were armed.
"In that traumatic situation, I knew not to go to the second destination because whatever is about to happen somewhere downtown, in some dark alley with [maybe more people present], is not going to be better than right here: broad daylight, peak-hour traffic with hundreds of people around me. And, so, I tried to run away. I tried to get out of that vehicle," she added.

However, Demi-Leigh was grabbed by one of the men, who pushed her back into the vehicle. And that's when she decided to become an example of bravery and handle the situation like a warrior. The former Miss Universe hit the man in the throat and ran away from her car.
"The throat. It's obviously lethal. So please don't ever try this at home. It's absolutely just to be used in a life-threatening situation. But I punched him as hard as I could in his throat, and that bought me a split-second window of opportunity to run away. That incident was so dramatic," Demi-Leigh recalled.
She remembers that moment as heartbreaking, but it also changed something inside her. The Miss Universe winner decided to devote her life to serving people and helping women across the world fight for their rights.
Demi-Leigh and her husband Tim Tebow share the same passion for serving humanity
Demi-Leigh and Tim Tebow started dating back in 2018. After almost a year of seeing each other, the couple decided to exchange rings in January 2019. The NFL couple married in a lavish wedding ceremony in Cape Town in January 2020.
Tim Tebow and Demi-Leigh are totally different individuals, however, they share the same passion for helping others. During the interview with FOX, Demi-Leigh recalled the same as she said:
"It started off with learning about what women in South Africa face, but it has snowballed and grown into learning about the fight against human trafficking, about fighting for survivors of human trafficking and being able to provide for them.
"My husband and I, when we first met, you know, being from two different countries, we didn't necessarily always have a lot of things in common, but we had so much purpose in the fight against human trafficking," Demi-Leigh added further.
Tim Tebow started his NFL career with the Denver Broncos, where he played as the star quarterback until 2011. In 2012, Tebow joined the New York Jets before making his way to the Patriots in 2013. The quarterback bid farewell to his NFL career after being released from the Jaguars in 2021.
