One of the most surprising moves of the NFL preseason was the resignation of Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians. He informed the team on March 30, 2022, that he would be stepping down as head coach and taking on a reduced role as a Senior Football Consultant.
Defensive coordinator Todd Bowles was named head coach, which became the second time in his career where he served as a team's head coach.
The Buccaneers, under Bowles this season, are having an underwhelming year as they are currently 6-6. They are also on the brink of not making the playoffs as they are only a game ahead in first place in the NFC South.

Analyst Skip Bayless spoke on his podcast, The Skip Bayless Show, about an inside source saying how the team misses Bruce Arians.
"Which brings me to my final point from my trusted NFL source who is plugged into the inner workings in Tampa Bay. The source said that the thinking is inside the box that they miss Bruce Arians.
He added,
My source said that everybody loves and respects Todd Bowles, obviously the new head coach but the offense misses Arians' sparks and his no risk at no biscuit swagger. And that the defense misses Todd Bowles full time coordinating and overseeing hands-on it. This was all news to me."
Skip also stated that he was incorrect in his assumption that Arians had to be moved upstairs as a condition for Brady's return to the Bucs. He then went on to say that his pre-season Super Bowl prediction of the Buccaneers going to the Super Bowl was also wrong.
He added:
"I thought Tom Brady wanted Arians kicked upstairs. I thought that was a condition for his return out of retirement. Well, if he did, according to my source, Tom Brady was flat out wrong.
And maybe I was wrong about Arians all along also. It looks like I'm going to be wrong about my preseason prediction, which was that Brady has come out of retirement to win one more Super Bowl unfinished business as he termed it."
Todd Bowles had one head coaching stint prior to becoming the Buccaneers head coach
Todd Bowles had one previous stint as head coach before becoming the Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach this season.
Bowles coached the New York Jets from 2015-2018 and compiled a 24-40 record.
He led the Jets to a 10-6 record in his first season, but then went on to lose three straight seasons, winning fewer than six games each time.
Following his time with the Jets, he served as the Buccaneers' defensive coordinator from 2019 to 2021 before being promoted to head coach.
If the Buccaneers finish with a losing record and miss the playoffs, Bowles could be on the hot seat and lose his job.
