Tom Brady has won more rings than all the franchises in the NFL, never mind players, but he too was thrilled watching Ben Johnson call plays for the Lions against the Commanders. It was one of the highlights in a frantic first half where both teams traded blows.
The Washington defense had stepped up to intercept Jared Goff and take it back for a touchdown. In the process, the quarterback got hit on a block while trying to stop the return. He was being evaluated on the next drive, which meant that Teddy Bridgewater was on the field.
Normally, an offensive coordinator might choose to be conservative with a backup quarterback but Ben Johnson has a different perspective on the game. He called a trick play with Teddy Bridgewater handing the ball to the running back and him throwing a reverse to a sweeping Jameson Williams in the backfield. As the defense committed to stop the run, the wide receiver took off and went all the way to the house.
Tom Brady was absolutely thrilled, barely able to control his excitement alongside co-commentator Kevin Burkhardt. He said,

Tom Brady talks about Lions' coordinators Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn on FOX broadcast
Tom Brady doubles up as the Raiders minority owner in addition to being a FOX analyst. With the Las Vegas franchise searching for a head coach, the former quarterback has been in those meetings interviewing potential candidates. Kevin Burkhardt asked his co-commentator what he thought of Lions coordinators, Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn, and Brady was fulsome in his praise for both. He said,
"Just been a great learning experience. What you realize is the league's full of great potential. What I believe is the resumes, the accolades are all remembered by what you do on the field."
While Tom Brady did not share what he thought of them as an owner, he did not have any hesitation in saying how amazed he was by what Ben Johnson was doing on the field. On the other side of the ball, though, Aaron Glenn had reasons to worry as the Lions shipped 31 points to the Commanders in the first half. A couple of costly turnovers by Jared Goff did not help, but the Detroit defense needs to show more in the second half if their journey is to continue.
