The Philly Special has become one of the main memories from Tom Brady's defeat by the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl LII, in 2018. Several years later, the memory continues to bubble to the surface in different ways.
In the game played against the Seahawks in Germany, the Buccaneers attempted to get Brady a reception on a trick play.
Instead, the play ended in disaster with the quarterback falling down, giving up an interception, and also receiving a 15-yard penalty on the play. The interception would help the Seahawks fight back to make it a one-score game.

Speaking on the Let's Go! Podcast, Tom Brady recalled the play, expressing his embarrassment:

"That was a shot. That's really special. It was not very special. And I think the thing about it was the ball was in there. Obviously, I wasn't gonna catch it. But I tried to go up to at least tackle and try to keep the ball and then I fell on my face."
He continued, explaining that he will never forget the mistake:
"So in a lot of ways, embarrassment and shame at the same time on the same play. I won't forget that play. And I haven't had many receptions in my career. So I thought it'd be pretty cool to get one in Germany."

The Philly Special became famous after it was used by Philadelphia in Super Bowl 52 when they played against No. 12 and the New England Patriots. In the big game, backup quarterback Nick Foles had taken over for an injured Carson Wentz. The Patriots were the favored team, but the Eagles never got the memo.
Foles played arguably the best game of his career, throwing for 373 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. He also caught a touchdown on a trick play when Trey Burton threw the ball to him. In the same game, the Patriots tried something similar, but No. 12 ultimately dropped the wide-open pass.
Will Tom Brady eventually complete the play correctly?
