Travis Kelce settles Andy Reid vs. Bill Belichick "greatest coach" debate with extremely blunt response

There are often debates that spark endless discussions in the world of pro sports, and then there’s the never-ending tussle over who is the greatest NFL head coach of all time. With names like Bill Belichick and Andy Reid often dominating the conversation, it’s never really a straightforward answer. However, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce believes the answer is simple: Andy Reid.

The future Hall of Famer didn't mince words during a recent appearance on The Stephen A. Smith Show. When asked about the GOAT coaching debate, Kelce confidently declared Reid the best ever. [From 46:21]

“[Andy Reid is] the greatest to ever do it. The wins are there. The Super Bowls are there. Everywhere he’s gone, he’s won, and he’s done it in a way that’s so much respected by everybody that plays for him,” Kelce said.

Travis Kelce’s endorsement comes as Reid continues to build an impressive legacy with the Chiefs, highlighted by multiple Super Bowl wins and a consistent winning record en route to potentially clinching a historic three-peat next month.

Reid’s ability to connect with players across all generations is a skill that has helped him build a cohesive and highly successful team around arguably the greatest NFL quarterback today, Patrick Mahomes.

“It’s a unique blend of being able to be relatable to everybody, no matter how old he gets and how young these players are getting in the league. He always has the ability to relate to guys, and that’s big in the football world,” Kelce noted.

Has Andy Reid done enough to pip Bell Belichick as the NFL coaching G.O.A.T?

If you take a cursory glance at Reid’s legacy in numbers, the accolades speak for themselves. His coaching career spans over two decades where he amassed 273 regular-season victories and 26 playoff wins, ranking fourth in NFL history and first among active head coaches.

Under Reid's leadership, the Kansas City Chiefs have made it to the playoffs 11 out of 12 seasons, played in six-straight AFC Championship games (2018-23) and have been to the Super Bowl four times in five seasons (2019, 2020, 2022, 2023), winning three championships, including back-to-back titles.

What’s more impressive is that, in 12 seasons under Reid, the Chiefs registered 11 10-plus win seasons, locking in a winning percentage of .730 (143-53) as the Kansas City head coach.

Reid’s excellence isn’t just limited to the X’s and O’s on the field. Kelce highlighted the coach’s relentless work ethic off the field and his unwavering commitment to the team.

“He’s tough, and he shows his toughness every single day. I never see his truck leave this parking lot. This guy loves being accountable and loves coming in and being his best for this organization and this city,” Kelce added on the same show.

Meanwhile, Belichick boasts six Super Bowl titles and has managed to coach the greatest NFL player ever Tom Brady despite their reported differences, and arguably the strongest NFL side in the history of the sport - New England Patriots.

It's a tough choice to make and yet Kelce’s preference for Reid’s blend of tactical brilliance and personal connection is enough to trump Belichick in favor of his current head coach.
