Trevor Lawrence makes feelings known about future concussions and injury risks

Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars had a forgettable 2024 season. The team finished 4-13 and played the final five games of the season with Mac Jones under center after their starting quarterback suffered a concussion in their Week 13 loss to the Houston Texans.

This was the second straight season where Lawrence suffered a concussion. He was placed in the league's concussion protocol following his team's Week 15 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in 2023.

The consequences of suffering multiple concussions are dire but Lawrence isn't worried about his future. In a press conference earlier this week, he was asked whether he was concerned about his long-term health after his second concussion in as many years. He responded:

“It doesn’t necessarily worry me. I think it’s something that can be scary, I guess, seeing it after the fact and not really knowing what was going on. In that moment, I didn’t know that was happening, I was out, so I didn’t know. So, it’s kind of weird. It’s just weird seeing it after the fact, but I don’t know if ‘worried’ is the right word moving forward."

Like any NFL player, Trevor Lawrence has dealt with his fair share of injuries since entering the league in 2021. However, the minor niggles didn't affect him in his first two years as he played in all 34 regular season and two playoff games.

He suffered his first severe injury in Week 13 of the 2023 NFL season against the Cincinnati Bengals. Late in the fourth quarter, Lawrence rolled his ankle after stepping on one of his linemen's feet and had to be helped off the field.

The quarterback did not miss a game but his form dipped and the Jaguars lost four of the next five games. Two weeks after the ankle injury, he suffered a concussion against the Ravens. But he cleared the protocol before his team's Week 16 clash against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he suffered a shoulder injury, forcing him to miss a game for the first time since entering the league.

Lawrence injured the same shoulder in his team's Week 9 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles this season and missed the next two games. His return lasted only one game as a brutal late hit from Texans' Azeez Al-Shaair gave him a season-ending concussion.

The quarterback's injuries have piled up in the last two years and the Jaguars will be concerned about his health in the long run. They have to figure out ways to protect him better or risk him missing more games.
