It was the Trey Lance show all night long when the Dallas Cowboys faced off against the Las Vegas Raiders in Sin City on Saturday night. Lance, who has been casually dismissed by fans as a bust after being taken third overall in 2021 by the San Francisco 49ers, showed decent poise to set the Cowboys' second-stringers up for a win against most of the Raiders starters.

Lance finished the night going 15-of-23 on passing along with 36 rushing yards for a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown. The Raiders, meanwhile, proved to be half asleep on offense. Neither Aidan O'Connell, whose job it is to lose, nor veteran backup Gardner Minshew made any case to allay Raiders fans' fears that this is going to be a long season.

So much so that one Raiders insider proposed that the franchise should go ahead and trade for Trey Lance. Vincent Bonsignore, who covers the Raiders for the Las Vegas Review Journal, tweeted in the aftermath of Dallas' 27-12 beatdown, saying:

"Wonder what it would cost the Raiders to get Trey Lance..."

Raiders fans shoot down Trey Lance trade proposal

Here's what most fans had to say about a potential deal to bring Trey Lance to Sin City:

"I'm not that desperate," one Raiders fan wrote in response.
"Completely unrealistic and unnecessary," another fan wrote.

What did the Cowboys trade for Trey Lance?

No, they did not trade a bag of Doritos for 2021's No. 3 overall pick. The Cowboys took a flier on Lance, sending a 2024 third-round pick the Niners' way. It was, essentially, a buy-low move.

However, it is highly unlikely Lance displaces Cooper Rush as QB2 on the Cowboys depth chart. As things stand, Rush is the man to take over in case bad injury luck befalls Dallas.

That said, if ever there was a time for the franchise to sell high on Lance, this would be it. The Cowboys could then go and get any of the myriad backup QBs on other teams who are unlikely to see game time but could potentially serve as insurance.

You never know when you could be down more than a couple of quarterbacks. Just ask the San Francisco 49ers. In the 2022 season, the Niners were down to fourth-string QB Josh Johnson, after losing Brock Purdy (NFC Championship Game), Jimmy Garoppolo (Week 13) and Trey Lance (Week 2) to injuries.

Johnson himself suffered a concussion in the third quarter in the NFC title game loss to the Eagles.
