Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs started their playoff run on Saturday. The AFC Divisional Round game against the Houston Texans was close through all four quarters, but a few questionable calls ended up going the way of the Chiefs, frustrating the Texans' players during the game.

Two huge calls changed the history of the game, and late in the fourth quarter, it seemed like even the commentators of the game had enough of the situation. After Patrick Mahomes tried to provoke another unnecessary roughness call after an on-field push by a defender, Troy Aikman called out the Chiefs' quarterback for flopping during the play:

"He's trying to draw the penalty. Rather than just run out of bounds, he slows down. And that's been the frustration and I get it. I understand it. That's been the frustration for these defensive players around the league."

There were many controversial plays during the game, not always including the quarterback. Texans fans complained heavily about missed holding calls by the Chiefs' offensive line, while also complaining about a no-call on a hip-drop tackle that became illegal in the 2024 season.

Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs advance to the AFC Championship Game for the 7th straight season

Amid the questionable calls, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs came out on top against the Texans, 23-14. Mahomes finished with just 177 yards and one touchdown to lead the Chiefs back to the AFC Championship Game.

The Kansas City Chiefs moved up in the 2017 NFL Draft to select Mahomes with the 10th overall pick. They have experienced incredible success ever since.

Since Mahomes became the starter for the Chiefs in 2018, Kansas City has made the AFC Championship Game every year. He lost two times in the conference championship (2018 and 2021), once in the Super Bowl (2020), and three other times, he led the Chiefs to a championship victory (2019, 2022 and 2023).

The win over the Houston Texans guaranteed, at least, another conference championship trip. The Chiefs are looking to become the first team in the history of the NFL to win three straight Super Bowls.

The AFC Championship Game will be played on Sunday, January 26, against the winner of the Baltimore Ravens vs. Buffalo Bills matchup, to be played on Sunday, January 19.
