Tua Tagovailoa or Tom Brady: Who is the better fantasy pick for Week 8?

Super Bowl LV
Tom Brady of Tampa Bay at Super Bowl LV

If you are choosing between Tom Brady and Tua Tagovailoa for your fantasy team in Week 8, there is much to consider. Tagovailoa is having by far the best spell of his young NFL career, even if there have been concerns following his concussion incident. He's been realizing the potential that caused the Miami Dolphins to select him fifth in a ridiculously stacked 2020 NFL Draft.

Tom Brady is the most successful quarterback of all time. Right now, he's not having a good season by his standards. From a team standpoint, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers currently sit at 3-4 and are struggling mightily on offense. A lot can be said to explain the Buccaneers' poor form, but Brady has to shoulder some of the blame. In the fantasy world, there is no room for excuses, only results.

In Week 8 we recommend that you start Tom Brady rather than Tua Tagovailoa.

On the surface, this is a strange call. With Brady not putting up the best of stats and the Dolphins looking dynamic on offense, it seems like a puzzler. However, Tom Brady is due a huge performance. Forget the whole fierce desire to win and the high level of consistency material the media loves so much. This isn't about Brady's past or his seven Super Bowl rings either. He's due a big performance and Week 8 could very well be it.

The Buccaneers welcome the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night, and this one could be a high scoring game. The Ravens are 4-3 but could easily have been 7-0 as they have lost three games where they had big leads. After so many disappointing outings, the Tampa Bay offense has to get going soon and this could be it. With Chris Godwin back to full health and looking dangerous, he will start alongside Mike Evans in what could be a back and forth battle.

For all the praise the Dolphins have received this season, they haven't scored that many points. Aside from the huge game against the Ravens (this could be Brady's turn in Week 8), Miami have only scored 21 points once. The Dolphins play the Detroit Lions in what might be a high-scoring game, but then again, it might not. The Lions are very unpredictable at the moment.

How did Tua Tagovailoa and Tom Brady perform last season?

Tua Tagovailoa and Tom Brady had contrasting campaigns in the 2021 NFL season, and their fortunes couldn't be more dissimilar. Tagovailoa finished the season with 2,653 passing yards, 16 passing touchdowns, and ten interceptions. He also recorded 42 carries for 128 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. The Miami Dolphins did not make the playoffs, and they ended the season with more questions than answers.

Brady led the Buccaneers to another outstanding season. He finished the season with 5,316 passing yards, 43 passing touchdowns, and twelve interceptions.

How have Tua Tagovailoa and Tom Brady performed this season?

Tua Tagovailoa and Tom Brady have performed so-so this season. Tagovailoa has put up a stat line of 1,296 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and three interceptions (six of those touchdowns were against the Ravens). Note that the Pittsburgh Steelers dropped four easy interceptions against Miami in Week 7, so Tagovailoa is not playing safe with the ball.

Brady has recorded 1,942 passing yards, with eight touchdowns and one interception. The Buccaneers' offense has been poor, but that could all be about to change.
