Training camp begins this week, but for Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins, the standoff remains. The quarterback is still looking for his new contract, and while the Dolphins are interested in keeping him, they still haven't found some common ground in their negotiations.
No one can deny that Tagovailoa's numbers have been great, but there are legitimate concerns about his game. His injury record is poor, he has been concussed too many times in his career and, most importantly, he still lacks production in big games, especially in the playoffs.
On Monday, Diane Tagovailoa added fuel to the fire as she posted a cryptic tweet that left Dolphins fans uncertain about its meaning. Was she laughing about the way negotiations were going, or was it just a moment that had nothing to do with her son's situation?
Nevertheless, Miami's fans were apprehensive:

Another fan couldn't help but feel uneasy about the cryptic tweet from Tua's mom:
"I'm gonna throw up," the fan wrote.
A couple of fans were hoping for good news:
"Momma Tagovailoa, please tell us the good news is coming. Real fans are sick of the games too", wrote a Miami fan.
"I'm intrigued. Hopefully good things are happening", said another.
Meanwhile, one fan voiced their support for the Dolphins QB amid contract talks.
"I am sure it’s a reaction to the Dolphins “updated” offer. Tell UCE we are behind him.", another had to say.
From the 2020 class of quarterbacks, both Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert have already extended their contracts. Jordan Love signed an extension but is back at the negotiation table, while Tagovailoa is still on his rookie deal.
Should the Dolphins move on from Tua Tagovailoa?
The Dolphins can't just give up on Tua Tagovailoa, as they don't have better options at the moment. At the same time, they can't simply make him the highest-paid new quarterback in the league, even with the major salary cap increase that NFL teams weren't expecting.
There's no denying that, when things are great, Tua Tagovailoa is an excellent quarterback. But you need your leader to make your team better, and not the other way around, which is where the two sides are struggling to meet.
Miami has a clear risk on its hands: compromising the salary cap without security in the most important position of the game - especially because getting out of huge contracts to quarterbacks is nearly impossible in the short term.
