The Miami Dolphins won on Sunday, but Tyreek Hill had an afternoon to forget. The veteran wide receiver, who's one of the five best-paid wide receivers in the league, amassed just 29 receiving yards and a touchdown in three catches during Sunday's 29-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers.
The win gave the Dolphins a lifeline in the season, but apart from the need to win all their remaining games, they still need the Denver Broncos and the Los Angeles Chargers to lose both of their remaining two games. The most likely scenario is still a January without playoff games for Miami.
Apart from the win, Hill's poor performance attracted the ire of Dolphins fans. In a disappointing season for the team, there has been a lot of disappointment about how one of the team's best-paid players has not been up to the standards, and Sunday was no exception:

"Hey, he did manage to make a 2-yard catch earlier, so not as bad as some weeks this year", a fan trolled.
"Defenses have learned to be physical with him, and it knocks him off his game", noted another fan.
"If we lose this game, it's because Tyreek dropped two TD passes and a third for a 1st down", a third said.
In 2023, he finished the season with 1,799 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns. In the final two games of this year, he would need 166 yards to simply cross the 1,000-yard mark. That's a huge drop-off for one of football's most decorated receivers.
Which Miami Dolphins players are paid more than Tyreek Hill?
According to the specialized website Spotrac, only Tua Tagovailoa has a bigger average per year on his deal than the wide receiver, who makes $30 million. The quarterback, who signed a new deal prior to the 2024 season, averages $53.1 million per year.
However, when you look through salary cap purposes, the Dolphins have Hill as the player with the biggest cap hit in 2024, with $18.3 million counting against the salary cap. This number will grow to $28.6 million in 2025; if his performance doesn't improve, this will be a massive problem.
