Tyreek Hill, Ryan Clarke and NFL world defend Angel Reese's 'You can't see me' celebration on Caitlin Clark

LSU's Angel Reese Gesturing the Championship Ring She Will Be Wearing In Front of Iowa's Caitlin Clark

Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark must have felt the WrestleMania vibe while competing for the NCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship. The Iowa point guard flashed the “You can’t see me” gesture during their Elite Eight match against Louisville.

Clark showed the move made famous by professional wrestler John Cena after converting her sixth three-point attempt against the Cardinals. She finished the game with 41 points, 12 assists, and ten rebounds. She also got Cena’s attention after the 16-time world champion gave her a shoutout on Twitter.

Cena said:

“Even if they could see you…they couldn’t guard you! Congrats on the historic performance, @CaitlinClark22 and to @IowaWBB on advancing to the Final Four! @MarchMadnessWBB #WFinalFour”

Clark’s actions went full circle when LSU guard/forward Angel Reese directed the “You can’t see me” gesture to the 2023 Associated Press Player of the Year during the dying minutes of the national championship game. Adding insult to injury, Reese pointed to her finger while looking at Clark, symbolic of the title ring she will be wearing. The Tigers had a convincing 102-85 win over the Hawkeyes.

Reese had a solid game, posting 15 points, ten rebounds, five assists, three steals, and a block. As a unit, LSU was also offended that Clark dared the South Carolina Gamecocks to take outside shots during their Final Four battle. Thus, Reese used the same gesture in front of the poker-faced Clark.

However, the 2023 NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player received heavy criticism for her actions. Other athletes and sports personalities were quick to have her back, citing her fiery demeanor, especially after competing in a high-stakes basketball game.

Fellow athletes express support to Angel Reese

Those who compete in other sports understand Reese’s mentality at this point. That’s why they quickly defended her case, especially when Clark made the gesture earlier. The premise is what these athletes and sports broadcasters pointed out in their tweets.

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill commented:

“I’m with all that to”

Former NFL defensive back and ESPN analyst Ryan Clark expressed:

“If you praised Caitlin Clark as competitive, fiery, and passionate for doing the “You can’t see me” celebration and are criticizing Angel Reese for the same we already know!!”

Former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson stated:

“No offense but if you dish at the end of games you have to be able to take it as well”

Former NFL linebacker and Fox Sports 1’s Emmanuel Acho said:

“If it wasn’t “classless” when Caitlin Clark did it, don’t call it classless when Angel Reese does it. Let the women compete, it’s sports!!”

Cincinnati Bengals offensive lineman Orlando Brown Jr. exclaimed:

“Big Dog!!!”

NFL linebacker and “Bussin’ With the Boys” podcast co-host Will Compton shared:

“Every sport needs entertainment like this. We need heroes and villains. It creates storylines and gives everyone a reason to cheer and argue. Women’s basketball won today.”

Finally, Fox Sports 1’s Nick Wright responded to ouresquina.com editor Jose de Jesus Ortiz:

“Jose, Caitlin did *the exact same thing* in the Elite 8 game. Give me a break.”

Aside from the support she received, Reese had a lot to celebrate as she helped LSU capture its first-ever national championship.
