The Washington Commanders could have a new owner if media mogul Bryon Allen has his way. Allen is reportedly making a second attempt to acquire an NFL franchise. He tried to buy the Denver Broncos at the start of the year, but that sale went to a group led by Walmart heir Robert Walton for $4.65 billion.

The current Commanders owner, Dan Snyder, recently inquired with Bank of America about a possible sale of the franchise he's owned since 1999.

Allen is working with an investor group, according to those close to the situation. His bid for the Broncos came after being approached by both league commissioner Roger Goodell and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft about being an NFL owner. In August, Allen vowed to try to buy the next NFL team available after the failed purchase of the Broncos.

Byron Allen said:

"Buying an NFL football team is a process and we had the pleasure of being a part of that process. We didn't get this one, but I'm highly confident we'll get the next one... We gon' find something. We're going to get it done. It's just a matter of time."

Allen would be the first black majority owner of an NFL team if he successfully buys the Commanders.

Who are the bidders for the Commanders apart from Byron Allen?

Outside of Allen, there are a couple of potential bidders for the NFL franchise. First, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos would be a viable bidder given his massive net worth. Bezos holds a current net worth of $113.6 billion, making him the fourth-richest person in the world, according to Forbes.

The 58-year-old has dipped his toes into the NFL with Thursday Night Football games on Amazon Prime. Owning an NFL team is the most sensible move for Bezos.

Next, Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning would be ideal but would need a bit of help in taking over the Washington franchise. Like Allen, Manning was interested in buying the Broncos. Co-host of the ESPN2 show ManningCast, Peyton would be an ideal owner, given his knowledge of the game.

Lastly, the owner of the Washington Nationals, Ted Lerner, could put his name into consideration. Lerner is connected to the Washington sports scene, having bought the Nationals in 2006. He is the best fit when it comes to wealth and regional ties. Per Forbes, Lerner has a net worth of $6 billion.

How much would it cost Byron Allen to buy the Washington Commanders?

Should Allen want to buy the Commanders, it would cost him $5.8 billion. The franchise is the sixth-most valuable team in the NFL. Allen has a current net worth of around $500 million, putting him in a leverageable position to make a feasible offer.
