The 2-6 New York Giants have watched their season being reduced to ashes through eight weeks of football and going up against one of the hottest teams in the NFL in Week 9 was always going to be a tall order.
While several Giants fans have written Daniel Jones off at various points in the season, he kept them in the game in the first half after a 2-yard throw to Chris Manhertz led to a touchdown. The Commanders, however, got the lead right back after Austin Ekeler forced his way into his second TD of the season to restore Washington’s lead. The Commanders heaped even more misery on the Giants after Jayden Daniels found Terry McLaurin late in the second quarter to extend their lead to 21-7 at the half.
In response, Daniel Jones went 4-of-6 for one touchdown and failed to resurrect the Giants' hopes.

After failing to get the offense going in the first half, Daniel Jones turned it up in the second, breathing some life into the Giants with a two-yard TD run.
Jones followed that up with another TD throw to Theo Johnson but an attempt at a two-point play fell flat. Despite the Commanders offense cooling off, the defense did more than enough to keep the Giants' resurgence at bay after a listless first half came to haunt them.
The Giants now slide to 2-7 with little to look forward to for the rest of the year. The Giants will have a shot at picking up their third win next week when they face the Carolina Panthers.
The Commanders, meanwhile, kept their hot streak going, improving to 7-2 and keeping a firm grasp over the NFC East. They will go up against the Pittsburgh Steelers next week, who will be rested up after a bye week.
