Brandon Aubrey's record-breaking season with the Dallas Cowboys took an interesting turn during Sunday's Week 18 matchup against the Washington Commanders at AT&T Stadium. The 2023 first team All-Pro kicker sent a second-quarter kickoff wide — striking a Cowboys cheerleader on the sidelines.
The cheerleader quickly brushed off the incident with laughter, demonstrating remarkable poise despite getting hit on the head. Her lighthearted response provided a rare moment of levity in what has been a challenging season for Dallas.
The kick came on a day when Aubrey had already etched his name deeper in Cowboys history. Earlier in the game, he drilled his 37th field goal of the season — a precise 34-yard attempt during Dallas' opening drive. This successful kick broke his own Cowboys single-season record of 36 field goals established in 2023.

In just two seasons, Aubrey owns the two highest single-season field goal totals in franchise history. His 37 makes in 2024 and 36 in 2023 surpass the previous mark of 34, shared by Greg Zuerlein (2020) and Richie Cunningham (1997).
Brandon Aubrey's season of stellar kicks
Cowboys special teams coordinator John Fassel recently highlighted Aubrey's rapid rise to elite status.
"We've talked about this a whole bunch of times, but it's amazing to go back to where we were less than two years ago without a kicker, and we found one," Fassel said on Monday, via CBS Sports. "I think he's proven himself. I think he's damn good. I think he's the very best in the league."
His practice routine reveals his dedication to consistency.
"Just consistency throughout the work week, make every work week the same," Aubrey said on Thursday, via CBS Sports. "Show up and keep my pads on. ... Trying to build that pressure into my practice as much as possible."
His commitment has produced historic results. Aubrey became the first NFL kicker to make at least 10 field goals of 50+ yards in consecutive seasons. The Cowboys have faith in his leg that they attempted a 70-yard field goal against Carolina in Week 15.
Dallas closes out a disappointing 7-9 season. Meanwhile, the Commanders entered the game at 11-5, looking ahead to potential wild card matchups against either the LA Rams or Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
