Bears fans hyped as Brett Rypien puts on a show against Texans in preseason game - "We need him instead of Caleb Williams"

Caleb Williams is the biggest story on the Chicago Bears in many decades, but it seems that the quarterback position is well set beyond the superstar rookie. During the Pro Football Hall of Fame game, another quarterback stepped up as the Bears rested its starters.

Brett Rypien had a fantastic game and put two hands into the fight for backup quarterback for the team. The newly-signed quarterback, who is most remembered for his time with the Denver Broncos, threw three touchdowns in a game that was later canceled due to bad weather.

Chicago Bears fans took the opportunity to joke about Rypien's great game, stating that Williams was no longer needed as they already had a franchise quarterback:

"Nothing says football is back like a touchdown pass from Brett Rypien", said a fan

"Where were you the night Brett Rypien and Collin Johnson became Brady and Moss", said another.

"Brett Rypien threw a dime to Collin Johnson and followed up with a TD soon after. Rypien’s looked GOOD today. He’s been throwing some darts out there", said other.

Rypien finished the game with 166 passing yards in 11 completed passes out of 15 throws and three touchdowns. Tyson Bagent and Austin Reed also saw game time as quarterbacks for the Bears.

The most recent first-overall pick in the NFL Draft will start his pro career playing against Will Levis and the Tennessee Titans. There were a lot of tougher games to start his career, so the opportunity to kick off the season with the right foot is there.

Wiliams is taking over the team following Justin Fields' trade to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Fields, a former first-round pick himself, struggled to develop his potential over the past three years, and with the Chicago Bears getting a golden opportunity with the first overall pick that wasn't even their own, Williams was too good of a chance to pass up.

Caleb Williams played college football at USC and is reuniting with Kliff Kingsbury, his former coach, in Chicago. The offensive principles are expected to be the same.
