On paper, it looked like Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings faced a mismatch to their disadvantage. While they are hosting the 2023 Week 7 Monday Night Football game, the San Francisco 49ers have solid units on both sides of the ball.

However, the veteran play-caller had another impressive performance to give the defending NFC North champions their first home victory this season. How he carved up the Niners' defense has football fans hyping him again.

Football fans praise Kirk Cousins’ Monday Night Football masterpiece

Cousins finished the game with 35 completions out of 45 attempts for 378 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. It’s his fourth 300-yard game this season and first since Week 3. Jordan Addison received both touchdown passes, including a 60-yard score wherein he took the ball away from cornerback Charvarius Ward.

It’s even more impressive that Kirk Cousins pulled off a 22-17 victory against San Francisco. Even in their Week 6 loss to the Cleveland Browns, the Niners surrendered only 19 points. Through six games, the 49ers ranked second in points allowed (14.5) per game.

This masterful output by the veteran quarterback had one NFL fan commenting:

“I guess we are putting Kirk Cousins in the HOF (Hall of Fame) tonight. With that, good night.”

Another Twitter user pointed out:

“Wait, that vaunted 49ers rush failed to sack Kirk Cousins???”

While they had six quarterback hits, the 49ers failed to sack Cousins, who is more of a pocket passer. Here are other reactions to Cousins willing the Vikings to a win over one of the NFL’s top contenders.

This victory improves Cousins’ Monday Night Football record with the Vikings at 3-4. It’s also their current slate after Week 7, which didn’t start well after Ward intercepted his pass for Addison on their first drive.

But since then, the four-time Pro Bowler got going, leading the Vikings to five consecutive scoring drives. Aside from the two touchdowns, Greg Joseph also converted field goals from 21, 20, and 54 yards.

The 49ers had a chance to steal the victory in their final drive. However, Camryn Bynum’s interception preserved the win. Defeating the Niners also gave the Vikings their first winning streak this season after edging the Chicago Bears last week.

Kirk Cousins has been putting on a show

While the Vikings still have a losing record after seven games, Kirk Cousins has been dishing out solid numbers throughout the 2023 season. He has completed 67.2 percent of his passes for 1,679 yards, 14 touchdowns and only four interceptions after Week 6.

His Week 7 numbers will bump up his rating among starting quarterbacks. Before facing the 49ers, He was eighth in passing yards, second in touchdown passes, ninth in completions, and 12th in completion percentage.

Cousins and the Vikings will look to extend their winning streak when they visit their division rivals, the Green Bay Packers, in Week 8.
