When Herbert is fit, he is the Chargers' QB1. However, in Herbert's absence, the team will promote Easton Stick as its starter.
Stick is the QB2 and the backup to Herbert. He was named as the starter for the Chargers in the 2023 season after Herbert picked up a season-ending finger injury in Week 14.
In five appearances, including four starts, Stick threw for 1,129 yards and three touchdowns on 111 passes. He didn't post a single win for the LA team.
The Chargers' depth chart also features Max Duggan as their QB3 and Casey Bauman as their QB4.
Justin Herbert Injury Update
As per reports, Justin Herbert sustained an injury to the plantar fascia in his right foot. The injury doesn't appear to be serious, but Lightning Round Podcast host Garrett Sisti has warned that the Chargers need to tread carefully with the quarterback's injury.
Sisti pointed out that former Chargers tight end Antonio Gates had a similar injury in 2010. When Gates tried to play through the injury, he tore his plantar fascia and was ruled out for the rest of the season.
Hence, Sisti believes that the Chargers must not rush Herbert back into the thick of things. It will be interesting to see whether Herbert will play a role in LA's preseason games.
Herbert is an integral part of the Chargers offense and coach Jim Harbaugh will need to use him carefully through a challenging 2024 schedule for the LA team.
Nonetheless, the Chargers are hopeful that Herbert will be ready for the start of the 2024 NFL season. They will host the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 1 of the season.
