The Arena Football League, a miniature version of the NFL, hasn't been operating for a while but is scheduled to return in 2024 under new leadership.
It's reasonable to assert that most fans are familiar with every aspect of the NFL, from the playing surface to the scoring system and club sizes. Unsurprisingly, the AFL is a slightly lesser-known competition.
The AFL is an indoor version of American football that's played on a field that measures 66 by 28 yards, or roughly one-fourth the size of an NFL ground. Arena Football games are more frantic and high-scoring than NFL ones.

Compared to the regular gridiron football games seen in the NFL and NCAA, arena football is very distinctive. Between the two football substyles, there are a few significant rule variations as well as some commonalities.
Football is modified to incorporate more action on smaller fields in arena football. The AFL field is 50 yards long, but the NFL field is 100 yards long, which is twice as long. The AFL has a 20-man active roster and a four-man inactive roster, whereas the NFL has an infinite roster for teams and players.
A game typically has four quarters, each lasting 15 minutes, with a halftime break, but there's a 30-minute break in Arena Football. Arena football goalposts are only nine feet wide with a 15-foot-high overhead bar, but NFL goalposts are eight and a half feet wide with a 10-foot-high overhead bar. Rebound nets are also located either side of the goalposts.
How does the AFL season run?
The AFL was founded in 1986; it started the next season and ran till the end of the 2019 season before declaring bankruptcy under Chapter 7. It was the third-longest-running pro football league in North America, after the CFL and the NFL, before it was shut down. The Albany Empire is the last team to win the Arena Bowl.
The American Conference and National Conference are the two conferences that make up the AFL. There are two divisions for each conference. There are four teams each in the East, West and Central Divisions, and five teams in the South Division, for a total of 17 teams.
Each team is scheduled to play 18 games over the 20-week regular season. Four teams from each conference compete in the AFL postseason games, an elimination series that concludes with the Arena Bowl, the championship game.
