DeMarvion Overshown has been one of the rare bright spots for the Cowboys all season but his season came unraveling against the Bengals in Week 14 of the 2024 NFL season. He was playing very well and made some robust tackles against Cincinnati under the bright Monday night lights.

However, in the fourth quarter with Dallas leading 20-17, DeMarvion Overshown was seen on the field sitting on the field rubbing his right knee and seemingly unable to get up.

He needed significant help getting to the locker room as he could not walk off on his own power. He did not come to the sideline or head into the medical tent. Instead, he went straight for an X-ray. The news came soon after that he had been ruled out for the rest of the game.

Examining Cowboys LB DeMarvion Overshown's injury history

DeMarvion Overshown's latest injury will be of significant concern to Cowboys fans. It was not just that he was hurt; it was the fact that he immediately went to the locker room and was instantly ruled out. It could prove to be a long-term injury that rules him out for the rest of the season. Given that Dallas lost at home to the Cincinnati Bengals tonight, it looks unlikely that they will make the playoffs, so that might not be the biggest concern.

However, what will worry Cowboys supporters is that this could be his second major injury in two years. He was picked in the third round in the 2023 NFL Draft but missed his entire rookie year with an injured ACL that he suffered in preseason.

DeMarvion Overshown has come into his own this season and combined with Micah Parsons to devastating effect and created an elite pass-rushing force for Dallas. He has 84 total tackles this year and five sacks. He even picked up an interception last week against the Giants.

If this is a serious injury, it could jeopardize his participation in the first few games of the 2025 season. With the Cowboys struggling this year and needing to rebuild their team to get back into the postseason and be competitive, they can ill afford to have one of their better defenders this season struggling with a knee issue. In the bigger picture, missing so many games on his rookie contract will also make it tough for Jerry Jones to find a way to balance his team's salary cap requirements.
