Josh Downs picked up an injury during the Indianapolis Colts training camp session on Wednesday. The wideout appears to have injured his ankle after being tackled by safety Nick Cross but will be evaluated, per coach Shane Steichen.

Downs had to leave the training camp after his injury. Steichen wasn't too pleased when asked about the player's issue after the session.

"I don't have anything," Steichen said. "We had an ankle for you. That's what I got for you."

Steichen was then asked about Downs' play with Cross.

"Yeah, I mean we got to be smart. I mean, we're competing like crazy, but we got to stay off the ground and we can't go down. That's the bottom line," he responded.

Downs was reportedly injured during the Colts' 7-on-7 drills at Grand Park Sports Campus. He was tacked to the ground by Cross and came up limping. Per Indy Star, Downs couldn’t put any weight on one of his legs while standing. The wideout was then examined by two trainers, before being helped off the field.

Downs was carted to the injury tent and was later paid a visit by teammates Michael Pittman Jr. and Alec Pierce. Colts' starting quarterback Anthony Richardson also dropped by to check on Downs.

The Indianapolis Colts will be sweating on the severity of Josh Downs' ankle injury. The wideout is expected to play a critical role in the team's offense in the upcoming season.

In his rookie season (2023), Downs posted 771 yards and two touchdowns on 68 receptions. He helped the Colts to a third-place finish in the American Football Conference - Southern Division with a 9-8 record. Indy will hope that Downs can return for some preseason games before the regular season begins.

On Sunday, the Colts will play their first preseason game against the Denver Broncos. They will host the Arizona Cardinals on Aug. 17 and travel to face the Cincinnati Bengals in their final preseason game on Aug. 23.
