What happened to Micah Parsons? Cowboys LB goes down in pain after hit against Giants - Source: Imagn

Micah Parsons was injured in the game between the Cowboys and the Giants with what looked like a lower leg injury. It happened during the fourth quarter as the linebacker tried to rush the passer, only to see a Giants offensive lineman fall on his leg from behind. He was already being blocked from the front and the combination of high and low impacts caused the injury.

Micah Parsons immediately went down grimacing and had to be attended by medical experts.

He was taken into the medical tent before the analysis there led them to conclude that he needed to be taken into the locker room. He was not wearing a boot on his left foot as he sat on the cart. He did not return for the rest of the game and the worry for Dallas fans will be that he might be out for longer than this match. They have 10 days before they take to the field again and Cowboys supporters will be hoping that is enough time for Micah Parsons to recover.

Micah Parsons' injury could affect both player and the Cowboys

If Micah Parsons' injury is serious, it could change the calculus for both the player and the franchise. He has one sack this year and did not have any in this game. But his overall production is not in question as he is often double-teamed, as was the case today.

He is due for a contract extension with the Cowboys in the coming year after Jerry Jones gave Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb new improved deals this offseason. If the linebacker is out for any significant duration, it could affect what he is offered.

At the same time, new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer's defensive schemes have yet to convince that they can make the Cowboys contenders. The malaise that started with last season's Wild Card loss to the Packers, where they gave up yards on the ground at will, has not been solved. If Micah Parsons is not present to play, things could become significantly worse as they look to give their offense a fighting chance.

Mike McCarthy is in his last year as the Cowboys head coach and will likely only be offered a new deal if they do well in the playoffs, something they have struggled with during his tenure. Not having their star linebacker could mean the end of the road in Dallas for both the head coach and his defensive coordinator, while also impacting what Micah Parsons is rewarded with after this season concludes.
