What is Shane Steichen's coaching history and record? Exploring new Colts HC's football stats

Pittsburgh Steelers v Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia Eagles OC Shane Steichen

Shane Steichen has spent the last two NFL seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. He was hired by head coach Nick Sirianni to be their offensive coordinator prior to the start of the 2021 season. Steichen helped quarterback Jalen Hurts elevate his game to be among the finalists for the 2022 NFL MVP award, while also making an appearance in Super Bowl LVII.

After his success over with the Eagles, Shane Steichen was recently hired to take over as the next head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. He will replace former head coach Frank Reich and interim head coach Jeff Saturday. The Colts are going with another Philadelphia product, as both Reich and Steichen were hired from the Eagles.

This is the first time in Shane Steichen's career that he will be the head coach of an NFL team. The innovative offensive coordinator will look to have success in his new position, as he has at just about every stop during his coaching career.

He spent two years in this position with the Chargers before being promoted to their quarterbacks coach in 2016. He worked with quarterback Philip Rivers for four years in this position and made an appearance in the playoffs. This earned Steichen another promotion in 2019, having been elevated to offensive coordinator.

Steichen worked with Philip Rivers again during the 2019 season. The Chargers then selected Justin Herbert in the 2020 draft. Herbert replaced veteran Tyrod Taylor as the starting quarterback just a few games into the 2020 season. During this seven-year run with the Chargers, the team totaled a 51-61 record.

After helping develop Herbert during his rookie season, Steichen was hired to take over as the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021. In his two years with the team, they posted a 23-11 record and made the playoffs in both seasons.
