If we go by what the XFL Championship was called back in the day, the 2023 Championship will be called "The Million Dollar Game."
This was what the first and so far only completed league season's final game was called. That game happened in 2001 when the Western Division champions Los Angeles Xtreme beat Western runner-up San Francisco Demons 38–6.
So why was it called "The Million Dollar Game," you might ask? The unique name was derived from the winning team going home with a pot of $1 million, which would be shared among the players. Hence, each player would receive approximately $26,316 for winning.
It remains to be seen whether the 2023 Championship game will have the same name, as new ownership is at the helm. They could, or maybe they won't. We will keep you posted as soon as there's an announcement from the organizers.

Did XFL keep its special rules from 2020 edition?
Yes, it has, and most of those rules are already on display in 4k in the 2023 season. There's the unique 3-point conversion option, one that's nonexistent in the NFL but celebrated in the XFL.
Then there's the exciting fourth-and-15 conversion play, which replaces the dour onside kick. All the rules mentioned above were fully displayed in Week 1 of the 2023 season, and you can expect more of the same moving forward.
Furthermore, kickoffs in the XFL will see the kicking team and the returning team five yards apart. Here, no one aside from the kicker and returner can move for three seconds. That's different from the NFL, NCAA and USFL. Moreover, it prompted XFL teams in 2020 to return 92% of kickoffs, while the NFL return rate in 2022 was a paltry 40%.
Many more special rules are on display, and we advise you to watch some games to fully appreciate them.
What is the XFL structure?
Eight teams will be split into two divisions (North and South) to play a ten-week regular season. The top two teams in each division will play a round of semifinal playoff games. These games will take place on April 29-30, 2023, after which a championship game will be played on May 13, 2023.
The divisions are as follows:
North Division
- D.C. Defenders
- Seattle Sea Dragons
- St. Louis BattleHawks
- Vegas Vipers
South Division
- Arlington Renegades
- Houston Roughnecks
- Orlando Guardians
- San Antonio Brahmas
Home stadia for XFL teams in 2023

- Orlando: Camping World Stadium
- Vegas: Cashman Field
