The Florida Gators were defeated 30-3 by No. 16 Oregon State in the Las Vegas Bowl at Allegiant Stadium, their heaviest defeat of the season. Adam Mihalek's 40-yard field goal with 37 seconds remaining saved Florida from a shutout.

It's been 34 years since the Gators were shut out. Florida currently has a record of 435 games without being shut out, which is more than any other SEC, NCAA, or FCS team.

Auburn beat Florida 16-0 at Florida Field on October 29, 1988. The Gators were 7-5 that year, although they did make it to the bowl game. In the All-American Bowl, they beat Illinois 14-10. Emmitt Smith was not in the game because he was out with an injury for the third time in a row.

The Florida Gators are not frequently shut out. Prior to that, they had not been defeated at Florida Field since 1979. In 1982, they were defeated 44-0 by Georgia in Jacksonville.

Last season, Florida avoided ending that streak after they were defeated by the Georgia Bulldogs, 7-34. Emory Jones scored on a 2-yard run with 2:49 remaining in the Georgia game, finishing with a 89-yard drive.

Saturday night's setback lowered the Gators to 6-7 in head coach Bill Napier's first season, leaving plenty of work to be done in Year 2. For the first time since 1978-79, the Gators have had consecutive losing seasons.

Florida missed four crucial starters: quarterback Anthony Richardson, All-American guard O'Cyrus Torrence, wide receiver Justin Shorter, and linebacker Ventrell Miller, who all chose to enter the NFL draft rather than participate.

Eleven flags were raised against the Florida Gators. Back-to-back false starting penalties on right guard Kamryn Waites and left tackle Richard Gouraige in the first half pushed Florida back 10 yards from Oregon State's 32 to the 42-yard line, halting momentum on a drive that ended with a Mihalek 52-yard field goal attempt.
