WWE 20th Anniversary Celebration Marking Premiere Of WWE Friday Night SmackDown On FOX
WWE legend Bill Goldberg once played in the NFL.

Among the most accomplished wrestlers in the WWE is Bill Goldberg. The WWE icon has won many admirers with his strength and ring prowess. Fans still leap out of their chairs every time he enters the ring because of how much they love him, but are you aware of Goldberg's exploits before entering pro wrestling?

At the start of his career, Goldberg was an NFL player. While playing high school football in Tulsa, Oklahoma, his skills stood out, securing him a scholarship to the University of Georgia in 1985.

At the University of Georgia, he played as a defensive tackle for the Georgia Bulldogs. The Los Angeles Rams selected Goldberg in the eleventh round of the 1990 NFL draft.

In the 1990 season, Goldberg stayed with the Los Angeles Rams. He then spent time in 1992 with the Sacramento Gold Miners of the CFL and in 1992–1994 with the Atlanta Falcons, where he became good friends with Deion Sanders.

Bill Goldberg was released by the Falcons in 1995, which led to the Carolina Panthers selecting him in the 1995 NFL expansion draft. He was the first Panthers player to be released, so he could never participate in a game with the squad.

Goldberg played 14 games and made one start in his four years in the NFL, all with the Atlanta Falcons.

What made Bill Goldberg leave the NFL?

Goldberg was struck in the back during a 1994 exhibition game against the Philadelphia Eagles, and the impact sent a severe ache through his pelvis.

After being released by the Falcons in 1995, his NFL career completely changed direction. As a result of his pelvis injury, Goldberg was cut after being signed by the Carolina Panthers, where he never appeared in a game.

Goldberg visited the Duke University Medical Center in quest of a diagnosis when it was revealed that his abductor muscle, which links the leg to the pelvis, had been ripped.

He sought his next adventure, as he knew that his time in the NFL was up. He was still in perfect shape but had no idea what he would devote his time to.

After receiving recommendations from Lex Luger and Sting, he subsequently started getting ready at the WCW Power Plant. Bill Goldberg was not fond of wrestling at the time, but he considered it a substitute for his failed football career.

Bill Goldberg made his WCW debut in 1997, not long after working out at the WCW Power Plant, and for the next four years, he completely dominated the world of pro-wrestling.
