Week 12 of the 2022 NFL season is a curious anomaly. Bye weeks have been a theme throughout the past several weeks, but Week 12 sees zero teams on a bye. Instead, every team will be on display, fighting for a playoff spot or trying to save their season.
This is big news for fantasy football managers, as they do not have to worry about players being unavailable in Week 12.

Week 13: Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers
Week 14: Atlanta Falcons, Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints, and Washington Commanders
For some of these teams, the bye week feels like it has come too late, namely the Bears, Packers, Cardinals, Panthers and Saints. Unless they see an incredible turn-around, they are set to miss the playoffs this season. However, it is possible that a week off to rest and heal will be integral in their mission to save their campaigns. We will just have to wait and see how it pans out.
Why did the NFL institute a bye week in the first place?
The NFL has one of the most torturous schedules in sports and the league is known to be non-stop during the regular season and playoffs. This league isn't like the NBA and MLS, where teams are afforded long runs with breaks. All NFL teams play almost nonstop from Week 1 right up to Week 18.
If the team is good enough to make the playoffs, then such a team will have more fixtures to play. As such, the NFL implemented a bye week, where each team is given a week off to take a much-needed break.
The bye week has been a feature for two decades and is a staple of the league's schedule. Before 1990, the league was operating on a schedule of nonstop action. But this is now a thing of the past and all teams are afforded a bye week.
