Jim Irsay had a persistent problem with drugs. This was made clear when it turned out that Irsay's mistress, Kimberly Wundrum, had died from an overdose in a home that he had infamously bought using funds from the Indianapolis Colts. He was also caught in possession of a bag full of prescription pills and more than $29,000 in cash.

The entire event resulted in his suspension nine days after the burial. Wundrum had multiple reported drug links and was subject to multiple drug offenses before she passed away.

They were "former friends," according to her sister, Rhonda, who acquainted them while she served as Irsay's private masseuse. However, Wundrum and Irsay had lived jointly intermittently over the previous 10 years prior to the incident, and were believed to be dating.

Irsay supported Wundrum and her stepchildren from her last marriage. At the same time, he was divorced from his wife Meg.

Wundrum died in the apartment where she resided after Irsay moved her out of the apartment they shared a year prior. It was the third home Irsay had purchased for her.

While Irsay was in treatment, his daughter Carlie assumed management of the Colts. Irsay received a six-match suspension from the NFL and a $500,000 fine in September 2014. This came days after a guilty plea to OWI and him being sentenced to a one-year probationary period.

Who is Jim Irsay?

Jim Irsay acquired the Colts from his father in 1972. He spent his formative years with the team, attending summer camp with them and riding the team bus.

Before working in the Colts' front office, Irsay played football at Southern Methodist University and majored in broadcast journalism. Before becoming the designated general manager of the Colts at 24 in 1984, he held positions in everything from ticket sales to public relations.

After his father passed away, Irsay took full ownership. Since acquiring management, the Colts have had 14 winning seasons and a Super Bowl victory in 2006.

As of January 2019, Jim Irsay's estimated net worth was $2.7 billion. Aside from football, he also has major assets in music and collectibles.
