Who is the Steelers' starting QB tonight for the game against Raiders in Week 16?

Pittsburgh Steelers v Miami Dolphins
Pittsburgh Steelers will start Kenny Pickett tonight

The Pittsburgh Steelers aren't exactly in a contending year, but they aren't technically eliminated just yet. At 6-8, a few wins could conceivably get them into the postseason as the AFC's final seed.

Even if they aren't able to sneak in, they are also playing for one other thing: Mike Tomlin's record as a coach. Throughout every year as a head coach for Pittsburgh, he has never had a losing season. With an exact .500 record impossible with a 17-game schedule, another loss ends that streak.

Pickett will start tonight's game instead of Trubisky.

Why did Kenny Pickett miss last week's game?

The rookie quarterback did not start for the Steelers last week in their win over the Carolina Panthers. The week before, he exited the game with self-reported concussion symptoms.

This was his second concussion of the season and Pittsburgh opted to be very careful with their first-round pick. However, after clearing the concussion protocol this week, he is back in line to be the starter.

Trubisky is not playing simply because he's not the Steelers' future. He hasn't played all that well this year and as a result, when there's no injury concern, Pickett is the starter.

Kenny Pickett injury update: Is the Pittsburgh Steelers QB injured?

Kenny Pickett went through concussion protocol before Week 15 but was unable to play then. This week, however, he was cleared on Thursday.

As a result, he carries no injury designation tonight against Las Vegas. Barring anything unforeseen, either poor play or another injury, he will play the majority of the snaps on offense tonight.

The Las Vegas Raiders have the same record as Pittsburgh, which means they are also not yet eliminated from the postseason.

Pickett will need to be on top of his game if the Steelers want to pick up a much-needed victory this week. A loss all but finishes them in terms of the postseason hunt.
