Who will Philadelphia play next? Eagles' playoff schedule for NFC championship game explained

NFC Divisional Playoffs - New York Giants v Philadelphia Eagles
NFC Divisional Playoffs - New York Giants v Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles jumped to a 28-0 lead by halftime against the New York Giants in their divisional round game and never relinquished their grip to win 38-7. They won the game handily to make it to the NFC Championship game.

As the first seed in the NFC, they will play the game at home next Sunday against either the San Francisco 49ers or the Dallas Cowboys. Whoever wins that game will, of course, represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.

The 49ers and the Cowboys will play tomorrow for the privilege of facing Philadelphia in the NFC Championship game.

The Cowboys are on the road as they were a Wild Card team, whereas the San Francisco 49ers won the NFC West. Dallas are coming off a blowout win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round. San Francisco were equally accomplished in defeating the Seattle Seahawks in their previous playoff game and would be feeling confident as well. It should be a fascinating matchup.

Will the Philadelphia Eagles be favored to win the NFC Championship game?

The Eagles will be at home in Philadelphia, so they will have home advantage in the game. They also finished with a 14-3 record in the regular season. It was two better than the 12-5 Dallas Cowboys and one better than the 13-4 San Francisco 49ers. So, based on that, they will be favored as well.

As divisional rivals, the Eagles faced the Cowboys twice during the regular season. Each team won one game. However, Jalen Hurts was injured in the second meeting, which was won by Dallas. Quite how much that will influence their next meeting remains to be seen. One could say that Dallas has the momentum in the rivalry, however, it would be a different team taking to the field in the NFC Championship game.

The 49ers did not play the Eagles this season. But they are the in-form team in the league, having won 10 straight games to make the playoffs before winning in the Wild Card round again.

Philadelphia, on the other hand, needed a win in their final game to clinch the top seed and though they did get the job done, their end-of-season form was generally patchy.

However, when Jalen Hurts started, the Eagles went 14-1 team this season. So, their matchup against the 49ers should be even.

Philadelphia will go into the game brimming with confidence after their win against the Giants today. It will be up to their opponents to bring their best game.
