The NFL Most Valuable Player award might carry a hidden curse, according to analyst Kyle Brandt. His comments come as betting odds swing dramatically between frontrunners Josh Allen (-300) and Lamar Jackson (+225) following their Week 17 performances.

Brandt, a prominent NFL personality known for his sharp takes on the sport, voiced his criticism amid a statistical showdown. Lamar Jackson has thrown 3,955 yards with 39 touchdowns and four interceptions, plus 852 rushing yards. Allen counters with 3,731 passing yards, 28 TDs, six picks and 531 rushing yards.

On Sunday, Brandt posted a video on X challenging the MVP award's significance.

"MVP discourse is out of control right now, Josh Allen versus Lamar Jackson has become an online holy war," Brandt said. "That got even crazier last night. I see people more passionate, more belligerent about who should win MVP this year than they were about who should win the White House."

The race intensified after both quarterbacks delivered stellar Week 17 outings. Lamar Jackson dismantled the AFC South-champion Houston Texans with three TDs and 70 rushing yards. Allen matched with three scores of his own, although against lesser competition.

Brandt's take gained traction as NFL on CBS analysts Bill Cowher and Matt Ryan suggested the two QBs should share the award.

"The player who wins MVP almost never wins the Super Bowl," Brandt said. "They rarely even make it to the Super Bowl. There's no Disneyland, there's no parade, there's no confetti. Instead, they show up at NFL honors in a suit and make a speech kind of sheepish, because their team got knocked out a couple of weeks ago."

This heated debate overshadowed other remarkable achievements. Eagles running back Saquon Barkley became the ninth player in NFL history to surpass 2,000 rushing yards. Bengals QB Joe Burrow has thrown for a career-high 4,641 yards.

The storylines will continue into Week 18. Allen, likely resting with Buffalo's playoff seed secure, watches from the sideline. Jackson faces a must-win against Cleveland to clinch the AFC North. Meanwhile, Burrow chases Steve Young's record for consecutive games with 3+ TDs and 300+ passing yards.

DraftKings Sportsbook suggests Allen remains the strong favorite despite Lamar Jackson's superior statistics. Yet Brandt's perspective raises an intriguing question: could winning the NFL's most prestigious individual award spell doom for these quarterbacks' Super Bowl aspirations?
