Caleb Williams has been finished with the 2024 season for almost two weeks after his Chicago Bears capped off a disappointing 5-12 campaign with a bittersweet win over the Green Bay Packers. However, the quarterback is back in the spotlight.
On Saturday, the No. 1 pick was spotted at the Wisconsin-USC men’s basketball game sporting a shaved head and a cast on his right hand. According to Ian Rapoport, Williams recently underwent surgery to remove a cyst in his hand.
The sight of Caleb Williams with a cast sparked immediate concern and surprise from fans:

"What the hell happened to his wrist?" one fan wrote.
"WHO HURT HIM," another asked.
"Oh that’s sounds painful," another commented.
According to Rapoport, fans need not be overly concerned, as Williams' problem is minor and he's generally in good condition.
Caleb Williams discusses what he wants from Bears' next HC
In late November, the Bears made history by firing Matt Eberflus after a clock-management blunder led to a Thanksgiving Day loss to the Detroit Lions. It marked the first time the Bears dismissed a head coach midseason.
Offensive coordinator Thomas Brown took over as interim head coach, but the organization is now searching for a permanent solution heading into the 2025 season. Caleb Williams, meanwhile, already has a clear idea of what he wants in his next coach.
Speaking on a podcast hosted by divisional rivals Amon-Ra and Equanimeous St. Brown, Williams expressed his desire for a “strong-minded” leader who aligns with his offensive priorities:
"Selfishly, I want an offensive-minded guy so I can build with him and be with that coach for the next 19, 17, 15 years, so I can also learn and grow and things like that from him and what he's seen and what he's gone through with other QBs or been around," he said.
"If we get an overall, like, grand-scheme coach (who) is good with time management, good with the clock, good with helping control the game... It's a big factor, obviously. In our game when we played the first time in (Detroit), big factor was being able to help control the clock."
The Bears have reportedly considered multiple candidates for their head coaching vacancy, including Pete Carroll and Mike Vrabel.
However, according to Jordan Schultz, the search has come down to a "two-horse race" between former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy and current Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores is also considered an outside possibility.
