Why was Eddie Lacy arrested? Ex-Packers RB faces issue in Arizona

Former NFL running back Eddie Lacy was reportedly arrested on Monday night. According to the Scottsdale Police Department, Lacy, 34, was pulled over at around 10:40 p.m. before being arrested for allegedly driving under the influence.

TMZ Sports reported that Lacy committed several traffic violations before officials stepped in. He reportedly showed signs of being intoxicated before he was arrested and booked on four separate DUI charges. The former Green Bay Packers running back was released on Tuesday morning but no additional details were provided.

Among the charges, he was booked for “Extreme DUI — BAC .20 or more" and “liquor – possess open container in vehicle."

Eddie Lacy had a short but entertaining NFL career, starting with the Packers, where he competed with promising young backs Le'Veon Bell, Gio Bernard and Zac Stacy, to name a few, to become the best of the pack.

He spent four years at Lambeau Field before joining the Seattle Seahawks in 2017, becoming one of a couple of players who've defended the Packers and Seahawks colors.

In five seasons in the league, he played 60 games, collecting 857 carries for 3,614 yards and 23 touchdowns. Unfortunately, he was one of those running backs whose flame extinguished after a couple of seasons at the top.

Is Eddie Lacy related to Kyren Lacy?

One of the major questions surrounding Eddie Lacy in recent weeks included a senior wide receiver from the LSU Tigers, Kyren Lacy. Despite sharing the same last name, the two aren't related.

However, they are both from south Louisiana. Eddie Lacy, a three-time national champion with the Alabama Crimson Tide, was born and raised in Gretna, Louisiana, which is in the New Orleans area, but his family moved in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

He starred at Dutchtown High School, just south of Baton Rouge. Kyren Lacy played for Thibodaux (Louisiana) High School before spending his first two college seasons (2020 and 2021) with the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns. He transferred to LSU in 2022.

Kyren is also an offensive menace, just like Eddie, despite not playing the same position. Kyren Lacy is off to a good start with the Tigers after losing the college season opener against USC. They won the next four games, beating Nicholls, South Carolina, UCLA and South Alabama. Lacy has grabbed 25 receptions for 352 yards and five touchdowns.

It's common to see NFL players share the same surnames, but in this case, Eddie isn't related to the up-and-coming Kyren.
