How long is JK Dobbins out for? Why is Ravens star not playing?

Divisional Round - Baltimore Ravens v Buffalo Bills
Baltimore Ravens running back JK Dobbins

Baltimore Ravens running back JK Dobbins hasn't even scratched the surface of his NFL career at the age of 23. The young running back will be out once again after missing all of last season with an ACL injury.

He'll likely undergo arthroscopic knee surgery next week that will sideline him for the next four to six weeks. Dobbins returned on a limited snap count and didn't look like he was at 100 percent.

After missing the first two games of the season, he had a total of 123 yards on 35 carries with a touchdown in four games. In Week 5, the former Ohio State star admitted that it was difficult not to be in the game in their 19-17 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.

He didn't play in the second half after injuring his knee in their 24-20 loss to the New York Giants in Week 6. Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh commented on Dobbins' injury before their Week 7 matchup versus the Cleveland Browns.

"JK's knee tightened up on him. He just didn't feel like he had that explosiveness in the second half. I think he might've landed on it at some point."

The Ravens will move forward with running backs Kenyan Drake and Mike Davis in the offensive backfield.

JK Dobbins is an effective running back when healthy for the Ravens

JK Dobbins played in 15 games in his rookie season back in 2020-21, rushing for 805 yards and nine touchdowns. The running back finished in the top 20 for both rushing yards and touchdowns that season. In fact, he was on the field for 47 pecent of the Ravens' offensive snaps in his rookie season.

As mentioned earlier, he missed the entire 2021-22 season with an injury that happened in the preseason. So far this season, he's been on the field for 41 percent of the snaps.

Given his timetable, the earliest we'll see JK Dobbins back in action is Week 11, after their Week 10 bye versus the Carolina Panthers in Baltimore. The latest is Week 13 as the Ravens face the Denver Broncos at home.

Presently, the Baltimore Ravens are 4-3 this season. To make it to the playoffs, they need to get some victories under their belt. Dobbins would be hoping his team remains in the hunt by the time he is back.
