The Dallas Cowboys have become a far cry from what they were before on the ground. Their current main man, Rico Dowdle, has only 246 yards and no touchdowns on 59 carries, though he has been better in the air, catching two touchdowns.
'America's Team' will be sorely missing his services on Sunday night, however, as he was ruled out with an illness just over an hour before their NBC-aired game at the San Francisco 49ers. Dowdle had reportedly contracted it upon his arrival at Levi's Stadium, per Adam Schefter.
In his place, Ezekiel Elliott is expected to receive just his second start in his first season back. He has had 115 yards and a touchdown on 38 carries.

Cowboys expected to debut Dalvin Cook in 49ers game
There is some good news for Cowboys fans, however, as Dalvin Cook is projected to suit up and play some snaps in Sunday's game. Executive Vice President Stephen Jones hinted at it when speaking to 105.3 The Fan:
“He has been doing the job and doing his work week in and week out like the professional he is. Mike (McCarthy) and (OC Brian Schottenheimer) have been talking to us about how it’s about time for him to get his opportunity.”
The four-time Pro Bowler had been signed to the practice squad two months ago, just as final roster cuts were fast approaching. Shortly after the transaction, he said:
“Where I’m at in my career, I just want to keep getting better. And when the time comes, I’m going to be right here.”
His presence is expected to add star power to a corps that has been badly lacking it ever since Ezekiel Elliott's peak in his first tenure in Arlington. Coach Mike McCarthy said on Friday:
“I think the biggest thing for us is we’re taking the full week. Dalvin is ready. I really like the work that he’s putting in. I think he’s definitely in position to (play).”
Another key Cowboys player who will not be on the field is linebacker Micah Parsons, who is still dealing with a sprained ankle.
