Eventually, the rain started coming down but there were still some flashes of electricity in the air. After a great Sunday which saw football action begin early when the Jets and Vikings clashed in London, this meant that the action would continue even further with this delay.

Sideline reported Melissa Stark reported from the tunnel that the players were waiting in the locker rooms during the delay and had the option of snacking on some sandwiches and subs while they stood by for the weather to clear up. She also mentioned that the players were trying to stay loose since they had already completed their warm-ups earlier.

Cowboys and Steelers face off with their seasons in the balance

Even after 30 minutes, the game did not kick off as the rain continued pouring and the lightning played spoilsport. As much as it was a game of patience for the fans, it would have been even tougher for the players waiting in the locker room.

The Cowboys are 2-2 entering this game. Where they have struggled in their defeats is in blocking the opposition's run game. With Justin Fields retaining his starting position and having the ability to extend plays with his legs, that is something they have to be careful about. With the turf and the football being slick after the downpour, rushing is expected to be a critical component in this match.

For Pittsburgh, Mike Tomlin has led them to a 3-1 record and the Steelers continue to defy expectations. As steady as their offense has been, their success has been mainly dependent on a strong defense. T.J. Watt and company have been sensational and the linebacker already has three sacks in four games this year.

With the weather probably limiting the passing game and the rushing becoming more critical, the rain and lightning could have changed the makeup of this matchup more than just the kickoff time. Rather than Dak Prescott versus Justin Fields, it could be a game that might be won on which defense plays better.
