The XFL's 2023 season just debuted last weekend, and while it was successful, there has already been a front office change for one of the teams.

The San Antonio Brahmas announced on Tuesday (February 21) night that they had fired general manager/vice president of operations, Mike Sheehan.

While San Antonio did lose their first game to the St. Louis Battlehawks in a wild finish in the final two minutes, that didn't appear to be the reason for his departure. All decisions regarding the front office staff are controlled by the XFL and not independently.

"From the XFL's director of communications: The release of the Brahmas Mike Sheehan is a personnel matter. No other executives league wide have been fired. All decisions come from the league. It is not a financial matter. The league is solid and built for the long-term future."

The XFL is also assuring other teams and fans that the business model created to re-establish the league after a nearly three-year hiatus is built for the future. There are no plans of closing up shop any time soon.

Before being hired by the San Antonio Brahmas, Mike Sheehan worked in the NFL, MLB and NBA with planning, sales and development. No word yet on who will replace Sheehan as the general manager of the Brahmas has emerged.

Who is head coach of XFL's San Antonio Brahmas?

For NFL fans watching the XFL, there're sure to be plenty of familiar names. While the players of the field may have spent time in the National Football League, there are also some familiar faces on the sidelines.

Former NFL wide receiver Hines Ward, who won two Super Bowls as well as being named Super Bowl MVP, is the head coach of the San Antonio Brahmas.

Ward began his coaching journey in 2017, working with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an offensive intern, specifically working with the wide receivers.

In 2019, he was hired as a full-time coach with the New York Jets as an offensive assistant. In 2021, he was hired by Florida Atlantic University as an assistant head coach and then wide receivers coach for the Owls.

Ward was originally announced as one of the new head coaches for the XFL in 2021. However, he wasn't named San Antonio's head coach till late last summer when the league announced the host cities.
