Todd Bowles and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are playing the Washington Commanders in the first round of the NFC playoffs. In a game that was extremely tight for the entire first half, the Buccaneers scored a late touchdown to tie the score 10-10 right before halftime.

But things could've been totally different. Even though they were able to get the ball to the end zone, Tampa Bay cost themselves some extra chances with some egregious clock management. If not for a great Mike Evans reception, they would have gone to halftime behind 10-3 in the score and with a big headache.

Even though things turned out as they wanted to, NFL fans could not stop themselves from criticizing Bowles for how he handled the situation, especially as it could've cost them important points during a playoff game:

"What the hell was that? He had TWO timeouts? He could have had potentially 2 more chances to score, now just one and if it’s not good a field goal try," said one fan.
"And he looks annoyed on the sideline when Baker calls timeout. Like he doesn't have control of the clock as the head coach," said another.
"He never knows what to do in these situations," a third said.

Buccaneers eliminated from playoffs after more clock management problems from Bowles

They were able to circumvent the problems in the first half, but it was too much to do that again in the second. After the Buccaneers tied the game 20-20 in a failed third down conversion, the Commanders got the ball back with just under five minutes left.

Everyone knew that they would bleed the clock, but for the second straight time, Bowles' lack of clock management ended up costing his team. He spent lots of time before using his timeouts, and for that reason, his strategy wasn't effective.

As a result, Tampa Bay will be forced to watch the Divisional Round from home instead of traveling to Philadelphia to play the Eagles, a team that they stomped early in the season. Some interesting discussions will happen in Tampa Bay after such mismanagement.
