Will Compton takes issue with Cam Sutton being suspended for 8 games in 2024 NFL season - "Absolutely insane"

Pittsburgh Steelers v Philadelphia Eagles
The Pittsburgh Steelers will not have Cameron Sutton until Week 10

The eight-game suspension applied to Cameron Sutton after the domestic incident that happened in March has sparked outrage throughout the NFL circles. The cornerback had an arrest warrant issued and turned himself in to the police back then, which led to his release from the Detroit Lions.

Sutton later signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the second time in his career, with the team already expecting him to miss a number of games due to the incident. The seriousness of the accusations wasn't enough for Mike Tomlin's team to avoid a second chance for the cornerback.

After the suspension was officially issued, former NFL player and current media member Will Compton couldn't believe the punishment in comparison to the acts that led to it:

The earliest that Sutton can return to the field is in Week 10. That's because, after the first eight games of the season, the Pittsburgh Steelers will have a bye on Week 9.

Will the Steelers miss Cameron Sutton after his suspension?

More than likely, Pittsburgh signed the cornerback knowing that they'll probably be without him for an extended period of time, and were willing to live with the consequences of the suspension whenever it was announced.

The secondary is one of the best groups for Pittsburgh in 2024. The ascension of Joey Porter Jr. in the second half of the 2023 season did wonders for the defense, who finally has a CB1 that's good enough to cover elite wide receivers.

It should also be remembered that, early in the offseason, the Steelers traded for former Carolina Panthers cornerback Donte Jackson at the expense of wide receiver Diontae Johnson. While Jackson isn't a household name, he provides depth and shouldn't be much of a problem whenever he's on the field.

At this point, to expect much from the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy is to get ready to be disappointed. Strides were made in recent years, but there's still a long way to go. And the fact that Sutton was able to find a new team three months after the accusations are also a bad look for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
