Will Eagles wear Kelly Green uniforms in 2024? Franchise makes plans clear

Miami Dolphins v Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles will wear their former uniform look twice in the 2024 NFL season.

The Philadelphia Eagles will be getting a blast from the past this season with the return of their "Kelly Green" uniforms. NFL fans have speculated that the uniforms may return in 2024, and on Friday morning, NFL insider Adam Schefter confirmed the news.

The Eagles will wear the iconic uniforms twice. The first time will be in Week 9 against former head coach Doug Pederson and the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the second appearance will be against the NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys in Week 17.

Both matchups will take place at home at Lincoln Financial Field. The uniforms also made two appearances in 2023 against two AFC opponents, the Miami Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills. It's worth noting that Philadelphia won both of those games.

When did the Philadelphia Eagles wear the Kelly Green uniforms?

The "Kelly Green" uniforms are now seen as a throwback uniform option for the Philadelphia Eagles. From 1985 to 1995, the uniforms were the main color scheme for the NFL team. After the 1995 NFL season — with encouragement from their fans — the franchise decided to change their uniform to a darker green and black color and revamp the image of the eagle.

Fans had worried the former green scheme was too similar to the New York Jets uniforms. Throughout the 10 years the Philadelphia Eagles wore the uniforms, their record was 96-78-1. However, the team never won a Super Bowl title during that run.

The alternate uniforms made a comeback in 2010 for one game when Philadelphia celebrated the 50th anniversary of their 1960 championship. In 2021, the National Football League approved the use of alternate helmets for throwback uniforms, which led the team to bring the throwback look back in 2023.

Along with the uniform change, Philadelphia also changes the logo on the field back to the former image and the font in the end zone to resemble the late-1980s to early-1990s look.
