On January 12, NFL journalist Harrison Glaser shared his opinion suggesting a possible coaching change involving Mike Tomlin. In a post on X, the NFL analyst mentioned how Andy Reid was fired by the Eagles and later joined the Kansas City Chiefs in 2013, where the team experienced immediate success under his guidance.

Taking that into consideration, Glaser suggested that if the Steelers fired head coach Mike Tomlin, the New York Jets should snap him up:

"This would be a no-brainer. Andy Reid was fired by the Eagles, hired by the Chiefs, & the rest is history. If the Steelers fire Mike Tomlin, make the rest history #Jets ✈."

Fans jumped to the comments to make their stance clear and sent out a clear message to Jets owner Woody Johnson shouldn't wait but instead trade for the HC.

"@woodyjohnson4 needs to be calling about a trade," a fan said.
"Wishful thinking or would Woody Johnson do that Ala George Steinbrenner?" another fan said.

Others suggested that the Steelers would never fire Tomlin and felt the asking price in a trade would be high.

"They not firing him, unless he wants to leave. Pittsburgh is competently run org, unlike the Jets!," one fan commented.
"They won’t fire him as they have 2 more years on his contract and they know he would get a HC job within a week. So if I were the Steelers, they can trade him and sucker a first round draft pick out of a desperate team such as the Jets," another fan said.
"The Jets secretly asked and they said no he's not available and he has a no trade clause," a fan wrote.

Meanwhile, one fan urged the Jets to go after Tomlin:

"Let’s do it Jets. Tomlin no matter what!" another fan said.

Steelers have no plans to fire Mike Tomlin: Report

The Steelers struggled during the 2024 season and lost their Saturday wild-card round playoff match against the Ravens. However, despite the disappointing end to the season, Mike Tomlin is expected to continue his journey with the team.

As per a report by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Tomlin is expected to lead the Steelers side next season. Moreover, even NBC Sports journalist Mike Florio suggested that there is a slim chance of Mike Tomlin leaving the Steelers. He wrote on Sunday (via ClutchPoints):

"Why would Tomlin want to agree to a trade? He could simply refuse, forcing the team to perhaps change its plans in a different way. Then, if the Steelers would fire him, he’d be able to take another job right away unencumbered by his new team giving up a first-round pick or more. Or he could take a year off with full pay and have his pick of open jobs in 2026.”

Notably, Mike Tomlin signed a three-year extension contract with the Steelers in June 2024 and his tenure with the team is set to end in 2027. Given Pittsburgh's history of patience and loyalty to its coaches, Tomlin could be there for a lot longer than that.
