The Defenders opened the scoring with a 32-yrd touchdown reception to wide receiver Lucky Jackson, then a 2-point conversion by Chris Blair. The Guardians then scored two straight touchdowns, but whiffed on their PAT attempts both times to lead 12-8.

Abram Smith put the visitors back on top 14-12 by rushing for a touchdown. Tight end Briley Moore then extended the lead to 20-12 by catching an improbable 12-yarder, before the Guardians connected on a 2-point attempt for a 10-point lead. But Quentin Dormady managed a quarterback sneak just as time expired in the first half to cut the deficit to 18-22.

Both teams exchanged touchdowns in the third quarter, before Matthew McCrane missed a 29-yard field goal attempt to begin the fourth. The Defenders went ahead for the last time with a 15-yard touchdown catch from Jackson and a two-point conversion, but the Guardians responded with a 44-yard pickup from Cody Latimer and a one-point rush.

Latimer's score proved to be the game's last, as McCrane missed another field goal attempt, this time from 63 yards, as time expired.

Overall, Dormady, had his best game, completing 27 of 34 attempts for 328 yards and three touchdowns. He also had three rushing touchdowns. Jordan Ta'amu, meanwhile, went 21/29 for 285 yards and also three touchdowns.

Smith and Blair were respectively the only rusher and receiver to breach 100 yards in the defeat. The latter also had the biggest single offensive gain of the night - an 86-yard TD catch in the third quarter.

While the Gurdians have gained plenty of momentum with the upset, they are stiill placed at the bottom of the South Division. The Defenders, meanwhile, still lead the North.

Next up for the Guardians are the Arlington Renegades, and they hope to sustain this newfound momentum as they continue their XFL playoff push. Meanwhile, the Defenders will hope to rebound against the Seattle Sea Dragons.
