The Denver Broncos traded for Russell Wilson and hired Nathaniel Hackett as head coach last season. Neither move has panned out and they've already moved on from Hackett. They're stuck with Wilson for a long time after they extended him in the offseason.
With Hackett gone, the Broncos are in dire straits. They have to nail the head coaching hire and hope that whoever they get can fix Wilson, who looks like a shell of the quarterback he was with the Seattle Seahawks.
That could be Sean Payton, as they've already received permission from the New Orleans Saints to interview him. A new report says that the team will also go after Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Both of these names will be very popular when it's time for teams to hire their next head coaches and the Broncos are in on both of them. They need an elite head coach to salvage Wilson and take what is otherwise a strong roster to the playoffs.
NFL fans aren't sure either of them can do that or that the Broncos can sign them.
NFL fans are still skeptical of everything surrounding the team, especially after the team got everything wrong last year.
Odds for Denver Broncos next head coach featuring Jim Harbaugh and Sean Payton
Given the price it would cost for Denver to add Sean Payton, he is not considered the favorite to land the job.
Per OddsChecker, Harbaugh is the favorite at this point:
- Jim Harbaugh +200
- Dan Quinn +250
- Darrell Bevell +500
- Sean Payton +575
- Frank Reich +1000
- DeMeco Ryans +1000
- Ejiro Evero +1600
- Jim Caldwell +2500
He probably makes more sense than Payton. Denver won't have to dip into their already depleted draft capital to sign Harbaugh, whereas the Saints are asking for a first-round pick for Payton's rights.
He also might cost less since he's been removed from the NFL game for longer than Payton, who retired after last season. He's only been retired for one full season.
However, either coach would be one of the top hires this offseason, so they do have options.
